Picasso x Gjon Mili

For this assignment at the HKU (Utrecht School of the Arts), I was required to create a composition based on an existing artwork. The purpose of this assignment was to encourage you to establish interdisciplinary connections between visual art and music, and to further develop your skills in musical translation and interpretation.

In my audio piece, I was inspired by the artwork of Picasso and Gjon Mili, where I deliberately played with contrasts to create a rich, dynamic composition. The contrasts between light and dark are audible in the shifts between bright sounds and dark tones. Static elements are alternated with flowing sounds to enhance tension and movement. By combining gritty textures with sharp, clear sounds, a captivating auditory landscape emerges. Finally, I sought to balance organic, natural sounds with mechanical, rhythmic structures, giving the piece both a human and mechanical feel.
